BLOOMFIELD: Bessie Squires, 97, of Bloomfield, Iowa died September 29, 2010 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. She was born April 1, 1913 in Schuyler County, Missouri to Edson and Ella Kirkpatrick Watkins. She married Willie T. Squires September 12, 1931 in Lancaster, Missouri. He preceded her in death January 1975. Bessie was employed by the Winsler Poultry House in Moulton, the Moulton Cafe, and later worked in the lunch room for the Moulton School System for several years. She was a member of the Orleans Church of Christ in Appanoose County, Iowa and volunteered at the Lord’s cupboard, the Bloomfield Care Center, and Long Term Care at the Davis County Hospital. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and bird watching.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Fred) Etchison of Floris, Iowa; three grandchildren, Sherry Etchison and Stephen (Lorry) Etchison all of Bloomfield, Julie Etchison (Jack Jones) of Ottumwa, Iowa; and two great-grandsons, William C. and Stephen Lucas Jones both of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, William Squires; three sisters, Blanche Kerby, Ruby Kerchal, and Leona Stam; and two brothers, Everett and Paul Watkins.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Orleans Church of Christ in Appanoose County, Iowa with Pastor Jerry Weller officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton, Iowa. Visitation will begin after 9am on Sunday with the family present from 2-4pm at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A memorial has been established to the Orleans Church of Christ.
